The Spitz was a popular and much-loved music venue in Spitalfields Market in East London and was a beloved hub of artistic expression throughout the 90s and 00s. The legacy of this iconic venue lives on through The Spitz Charitable Trust.
Today, The Spitz takes professional musicians into care homes, day centres and hospitals across London. We use the power of live music to improve wellbeing, while reducing isolation and loneliness. Drawing on some of London’s finest musicians, many of whom were regulars at The Spitz venue, our participatory music sessions have proven to ease anxiety, improve memory and reduce falls and accidents.
Through music we connect people who may be isolated as a result of social and economic realities, age, ethnicity, disability, culture and other disadvantages. We build relationships with participants and their families, nurturing memories and creating new ones.
