Tuesday was a very special occasion as three residents of Bridgeside Lodge had their birthdays in the past week. During the Spitz and Bridgeside Lodge’s partnership we have celebrated many a birthday and have grown to love putting on lively celebrations for all, which usually entail dancing and singing from both residents and their carers – and when the music is especially good Spitz managers Thom and Jane might even join in!
The celebrating residents this time were Martin, Fekare and Michael, to whom we sang a triple-barrelled ‘Happy Birthday’. It was quite the challenge to squeeze all three names in the space of one, resulting in a charming, yet admittedly jumbled rendition filled with chuckles.

Aside from this lighthearted moment, the afternoon was filled with some serious solos from Peter Wareham on his brand new sax, Ben Hazleton on bass and Laurence Corns on guitar. Martin is a lover of West Coast Americana, and so the trio played classics everyone could sing along to but in a West Coast style: Blackbird by the Beatles and Let’s Dance by David Bowie to name a couple.

The laid back, optimistic sound of the genre perfectly matched the sunny and lazy feel of the day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the music and cake. Our artist Iggy Gill-Ces sketched through the afternoon (below) and captured the sun drenched, serene feel of the afternoon in ink and watercolour. The free-flowing, loose style was inspired by the easy-going and fun music.

See you all next time and check our socials for more pictures of the day!
